GAME CHANGER Movie Review by MATHIOLI RAJAA

“Game Changer” Movie produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations, Directed by Shankar, Music by Thaman, Starring by Ram Charan, SJ Surya, Kiara Advani, Anjali, Suniel, Srikanth, Samuthirakani, Rajiv Kanakala, Jayaram

Ram Nandan (Ram Charan), an IPS officer, resigns and becomes an IAS officer to fulfill his promise to his girlfriend Deepika (Kiara Advani) and takes charge as the Collector of his hometown Visakhapatnam. Ram Nandan, who is determined to fight against corruption, faces Minister Mohidevi (S.J. Surya), which leads to a severe confrontation. Meanwhile, Mohidevi’s father, Chief Minister Sathyamurthy (Srikanth), regrets his past mistakes. The distressed CM urges his party members, MLAs, and ministers to abandon corruption and adopt good governance. However, Mohidevi secretly plots her father’s death. In this situation, after seeing Parvathi (Anjali) at a public meeting, Sathyamurthy suffers a heart attack and is hospitalized, where he dies. After her father’s death, Mohidevi prepares to become the Chief Minister, when a video recording of Sathyamurthy’s last wish is released. What is Sathyamurthy’s last wish? What is the connection between Appanna and Sathyamurthy? How are Ram Nandan, Appanna, and Parvathi connected? The rest of the story forms the crux of the plot.

Ram Charan delivers exceptional performances in two distinct roles. As the honest and powerful IAS officer, he dominates the screen with intensity. On the other hand, Ram Charan effortlessly pulls off the role of Appanna, a man driven by his visionary perspective of a cashless political system, and delivers a powerful performance. However, his efforts are all undone by the outdated and clichéd storyline.

Mohidevi, a cunning politician determined to become the next Chief Minister of Andhra, is played by S.J. Surya, who, as usual, dominates the screen with his unique and distinctive style, but his repetitive body language, seen in many films, induces a bit of fatigue. Anjali, as the crucial Parvathi, attempts to deliver a commendable performance in emotional scenes, but the writing and character expression are weak.

Kiara Advani, playing the usual heroine, has limited screen presence and appears mainly in song sequences. Srikanth does justice to a significant role, while Suniel shines in a small ‘side’ character of Satya. Jayaram, as S.J. Surya’s elder brother, provides a touch of comedy and does his part satisfactorily. Supporting actors like Samuthirakani, Rajiv Kanakala, and others contribute, though they don’t have their unique moments. Thaman’s music and background score are unimpressive – just noise. Thiru’s cinematography has captured the story beautifully, while editing by Shammeer and Ruben has tried to keep the pace engaging.

Today’s audience expects logical and realistic portrayals of politics and election processes. There are no intense moments in Game Changer. The story is not novel enough to be engaging. In Chief Minister, there is a one-day CM, here it is a one-hour CM. Director Shankar, known for his grandeur, has failed to meet the audience’s expectations by mixing many films together and adding the right masala. The characters lack strong emotions to evoke. Predictable scenes reduce the viewer’s engagement with the screenplay, as they already know the storyline. However, Shankar’s signature grandeur is clearly visible in the film. Overall, Game Changer, produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations, is low on thrill – it has failed to make a lasting impact on the audience and has fallen behind in the Pongal race.
