The bonding between dogs and humans have formed the core of many film plots. Nithin Vemupati’s debut directorial too has chosen the human- dog scenario. Only, his is a take different from the usual ones. Here it’s a dog fighting for justice, a scenario intriguing and unusual.
In Kodaikanal, a dog named Jansi walks along the roadside with her puppy when a car driven by a drunk individual loses control and hits the puppy, killing it instantly. The grieving mother dog chases the car, wailing in agony.
Seeking justice for her puppy’s death, the mother dog attempts to file a complaint at the Kodaikanal police station, but is shooed away by the authorities. However, the determined dog continues to haunt the police station.
Retired lawyer Dharmaraj (S.A. Chandrasekhar) notices the dog’s persistence and soon discovers the reason behind its distress. He learns that the puppy’s death was caused by Ranjith Rajaa (Nithin Vemupati), the son of influential businessman Sekhar Rajaa (Kavitha Bharathi).
Ten years later, Dharmaraj re-enters the scene to ensure justice is served to the mother dog. The rest of the story unfolds from there.
S.A. Chandrasekhar has excellently portrayed the lead character, bringing his vast experience as a seasoned lawyer to life through his dialogue delivery, body language, and subtle expressions. He has breathed life into the character, making it incredibly believable.
The dog, which played the pivotal roles of Jansi and Bairava in the film ‘Kooran’, deserves appreciation for its trainer, who helped it deliver a powerful performance. The well-trained and overt acting has captivated the audience.
Director Nithin Vemupati, who played the role of the character who drove the car under intoxication and killed the puppy, had a body language that was infuriating. If he has a desire to act continuously, he should definitely focus on acting.
Kavitha Bharathi as Ranjith Rajaa’s father, Y.G. Mahendran as the judge, Director Balaji Shakthivel as Ranjith Rajaa’s lawyer, Sathyan as the character who translates the dog’s barking sound, George Maryan as the eye witness – blind Anthony, Saravana Subbiah, and Indraja Roboshankar have all delivered justice to the characters they played and have supported the screenplay movement.
