“Madharaasi” is a film that aims to eradicate the culture of guns. The story revolves around NIA officials who plan to seize and destroy a consignment of guns being smuggled from North India to Tamil Nadu in six container trucks. They decide to use Sivakarthikeyan, who has attempted suicide multiple times due to his struggles with depression and his failed relationship with Rukmini Vasanth.
Sivakarthikeyan, who lost his family at a young age, suffers from delusions and exhibits a unique personality trait where he instinctively helps those in danger. Rukmini Vasanth, understanding his condition, falls in love with him. However, after Sivakarthikeyan fails to save a woman in distress due to his treatment and recovery, Rukmini leaves him, leading to Sivakarthikeyan’s downward spiral.
The NIA officials recruit Sivakarthikeyan for their mission to stop the gun smugglers, led by Vidyut Jammwal and Shabeer Kallarakkal. The film follows Sivakarthikeyan’s journey as he battles the smugglers and navigates his relationship with Rukmini.
Sivakarthikeyan delivers a remarkable performance as a mentally challenged young man, showcasing his versatility in both emotional and action-packed scenes. Rukmini Vasanth impresses with her natural charm and mature acting. The film’s standout aspect is its well-choreographed action sequences, particularly the intense container-chasing scene at the beginning.
The cinematography by Sudeep Elamon is noteworthy, capturing the high-octane action scenes effectively. However, Anirudh’s music, while catchy at times, doesn’t entirely elevate the film. Director AR Murugadoss successfully blends action, romance, comedy, and sentiment, creating an engaging masala film that explores the battle against gun culture in Tamil Nadu.
