BADAVA Movie Review by MATHIOLI RAJAA

“Badava” Movie produced by John Peter – R Rajkumar under the banner of J Studio International – SM Film Factory, Directed by K.V. Nandha, Starring by Vemal, Soori, Shrita Rao, KGF Ram, Devadharshini, Namo Narayanan, Vinodhini, Senthil, KPY Ramar & others.

Vemal, a resident of Marakkathur village in Sivagangai district, with his friend Soori. Both of them are notorious for deceiving and extorting money from the villagers. They spend their days drinking and leading a carefree life.

The village is facing a severe drought due to the failure of the monsoon rains and the encroachment of Karuvelam trees. As a result, the villagers are forced to seek employment at KGF Ram’s brick kiln to make a living.

KGF Ram, who worships the Karuvelam tree as his investment, is also responsible for spreading its seeds around the village.

Tired of Vemal and Soori’s antics, the villagers devise a plan to send Vemal abroad for work. Through a contact, they collect money from the villagers and send Vemal to a foreign country for employment.

In just a few days, Vemal returns to the village. Contrary to his expectation that the villagers would chase him away, they welcome him with music and garlands. It is only then that Vemal realizes the villagers had spread a rumor that he had won a lottery of ten crores in a foreign country.

The village elders, thinking that Vemal has become rich, decide to make him the village panchayat president. Vemal’s girlfriend, Shrita Rao, confronts him after learning the truth that he didn’t win any lottery. What transformation does Vemal undergo after this?

What does the director have to say about agriculture? What happens to the village, which was once a Karuvela land? The rest of the story forms the crux of the film.

Vemal, the protagonist, has shone as a perfect hero for the story. He has utilized his acting skills well in various scenes, showcasing love, emotions, action, and anger. In this film, Vimal has also danced well.

Actor Soori, the second hero of the story, has provided ample comic relief with his looty dialogue with Vemal, making the audience laugh. Soori has also scored well in solo scenes, showcasing his unique facial expressions and entertaining the audience.

Shrita Rao, the heroine, is the perfect choice for the role. She has boosted the energy of the song sequences and has also performed well in acting.

KGF Ram, the villain, has delivered a menacing performance. He has effectively portrayed the character of a ruthless businessman who would go to any extent for his interests.

Additionally, actors like Nammo Narayanan and Devadharshini, who played the roles of villagers, have all done justice to their characters, understanding them well and delivering a great performance.

The greatest strength of the film is its storyline. While the first half passes with comedy, entertainment, and romance, the second half is where the director, K.V. Nandha, beautifully and deeply conveys the message he intended to, earning applause.

The harms of Karuvela trees and how they affect agricultural land are conveyed through clear and concise dialogue, making it understandable for everyone. The director has effectively depicted these issues in the film.

The importance of agriculture, the need to appreciate farmers, and the importance of teaching the significance of agriculture to the next generation are some of the seeds sown by the director in the film “Badava”.

Although there are thousands of films that talk about the importance of agriculture, this film has left its mark too. The songs in the film were enjoyable and impressive and background music also apt. Saravana Abiraman’s Art work has beautifully enhanced the film especially stunt and song sequences.

Although Vinod Kanna’s Editing work is Good, it feels like the knife could have been used sharper. The lighting in the Cinematography has been well utilized in the stunt and song sequences.

Badava is an awareness film about agriculture with loads of entertainment.
