“Kadhal Enbathu Pothu Udamai” movie produced by Jeo Baby, Mankind Cinemas, Symmetry Cinemas, Niths Production, Directed by Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan Starring by Lijomol, Rohini, Deepa Shankar, Kalesh, Anusha, Vineeth.

Lakshmi (Rohini) is a feminist and a bold speaker who is famous on social media for handling social issues effectively. She lives alone with her daughter Sam (Lijomol Jose) after separating from her husband Devaraj (Vineeth). Devaraj has remarried a teacher and they don’t have any children.

One day, Sam tells her mother about her love and invites her to their home. Sam’s friend Raveendran (Kalesh Ramanath) brings his friend Nandhini (Anusha Prabhu) to Sam’s house. Lakshmi is happy to see Raveendran but is skeptical about Nandhini. As the day progresses, Sam and Nandhini become closer, and Lakshmi realizes that Sam is in love with Nandhini. Despite being a progressive feminist, Lakshmi is shocked and unable to accept her daughter’s same-sex relationship (Lesbian). Devaraj also learns about this and comes to their house to talk to Sam and Nandhini.

However, Sam and Nandhini try to convince their parents about their love. In the end, the movie raises questions about whether Sam’s same-sex relationship is genuine, whether her parents will accept it, and whether love will triumph over family expectations. The climax of the movie is a dramatic and emotional confrontation between Sam, Nandhini, and their parents.

Rohini has lived as Lakshmi, a loving mother. Although she is a feminist who has separated from her husband and is moving towards her goal, when she learns about her daughter’s love, she is unable to believe it and is tormented. She tries to make her daughter understand, but when she fails, she breaks down and cries. She even tries to advise her husband to change their daughter’s mind, but when that doesn’t work, she scolds Nandhini and humiliates her, asking her to leave the house. Throughout the film, Rohini’s portrayal of Lakshmi’s emotional state is raw and realistic, making the audience feel her pain and anguish.

From the initial preparations she makes to welcome her future son-in-law, to her later attempts to make her daughter understand, and finally, when she asks her daughter to stay with her for just one day, Rohini’s performance is outstanding. The scene where she gives her daughter a Barbie doll is particularly heart-wrenching, bringing tears to the audience’s eyes.

Rohini’s acting is so natural and authentic that it feels like we are watching a real-life situation unfold before our eyes. Her character’s transformation from a loving mother to a mother who is struggling to come to terms with her daughter’s sexuality is poignant and moving. Overall, Rohini’s performance is a tour-de-force, making her one of the standout aspects of the film.

Lijomol Jose, as the loving daughter Sam, has done an excellent job. She has portrayed the character of a daughter who is affectionate towards her mother, yet struggles to express her same-sex love, and wants to get married with her mother’s consent. She has brought out the emotions of a daughter who is hesitant, yet determined to convince her parents about her love. Her performance is natural and authentic, making the audience feel her pain and anguish.

Anusha Prabhu’s character Nandhini is a bold and intelligent portrayal. She has been depicted as a woman who knows what she wants, yet is unable to express it due to societal pressures. She has been shown as a strong and independent individual who has escaped from a forced marriage and is living a new life in Chennai. Her character is a unique creation, and she has handled it with ease.

Deepa Shankar, as the house maid Mary, has brought some comic relief to the film with her natural and effortless performance. Her character has helped to lighten the mood of the film, which otherwise deals with a serious and sensitive topic.

Kalesh Ramanath has played the role of a friend to the women in the film, and has highlighted the importance of strong friendships. His character has been well-developed, and he has performed it with conviction.

The cinematography by Sri Saravanan has been excellent, capturing the events that unfold in a single house without making it seem dull or uninteresting. The music by Kannan Narayanan has been soothing and melodious, with Umadevi’s lyrics adding to the beauty of the songs. The background score has been subtle and effective, enhancing the overall mood of the film.

The editing by Danny Charles has been crisp and precise, making the film a compelling watch. The art direction by Aarusamy has been a strength to the film, adding to its overall aesthetic appeal. Overall, the film has been a well-crafted and sensitive portrayal of a complex and sensitive topic.
