NIZHARKUDAI Movie Review by MATHIOLI RAJAA

“Nizharkudai” movie produced & Directed by Shiva Arumugam under the banner of Dharshan Films, Starring Devayani, Kanmani, Baby. Niharika, Rajkapoor, Ilavarasu, Vadivukkarasi, Neelima Rani, Dharshan Shiva, Akshara & Many Others.

Devayani, a Sri Lankan Tamil, lost her three-year-old child and family in the war and came to India as a refugee. She now works at an old age home in Chennai. Meanwhile, Vijjith and Kanmani, an IT couple, visit the home to celebrate their child’s birthday. Looking for a suitable caregiver, they hire Devayani to take care of their child. Vijjith and Kanmani receive an offer to move to the US, and their priority is to settle there. However, the child has grown attached to Devayani and wants to stay with her. Devayani is emotionally torn about parting with the child.

Before leaving for the US, Vijjith and Kanmani host a party for their friends, where the child suddenly goes missing. The couple files a police complaint, and the investigation begins. The police question several people, including Devayani. The rest of the story revolves around who kidnapped the child, why, and whether Vijjith and Kanmani made it to the US. How does Devayani overcome this crisis?

In today’s era, most people prioritize wealth, luxury, and a comfortable lifestyle. Many parents are too busy chasing money to care for their children, often opting to send them to residential schools. As a result, these children grow up to abandon their parents in old age homes. Director Shiva Arumugam explores this theme in ‘Nizharkudai’, highlighting the importance of relationships through Devayani’s character.

Although the story is relevant, the screenplay is beautifully engagement, making it hard to fully appreciate, the director deserves credit for tackling a timely and fitting theme. Devayani, after a long hiatus, delivers a remarkable performance, bringing her character to life with her Sri Lankan Tamil accent and nuanced facial expressions. She brings a fresh perspective to the role of a mother figure in Tamil cinema. She will definitely receive many Awards.

Vijjith and Kanmani deliver realistic performances as modern IT professionals, showcasing their busy lives and struggles to balance work and childcare. Their on-screen chemistry and daily routines, including ordering food online, resonate with contemporary reality. The film also captures the aspiration for foreign opportunities, a common dream among many Chennai-based IT professionals."Mathioli" RAJAA

The child actors, Babies Ahaana and Niharika, shine in their roles, displaying a natural bond with Devayani. The supporting cast, including Ilavarasan as a police inspector, Raj Kapoor as an office MD, and Vadivukkarasi, adds depth to the narrative. The Cinematography by Gurudev is visually stunning, and Naren Balakumar’s Music enhances the film’s emotional impact. The Background Score is also noteworthy, elevating the overall viewing experience.

“Nizharkudai” has sown seeds of awareness about the growing trend of children play schools and old age homes through this story. The screenplay effectively complements the theme of love and emotions, creating a strong connection with the audience. The film’s strength lies in its realistic portrayal of life, making it relatable and impactful.
